Mac's Fresh Market Foods
Mac’s Fresh Market Foods at School Street on Hwy 51 has begun a community Partners Program. Each time you shop there, you will be given one stamp for every $5 you spend. These stamps can be affixed to Madison Central’s card, which will be kept at Mac’s. Once the card is filled with stamps Mac’s will issue MC a check. Your participation in this program will help us buy needed equipment and supplies for our classroom. Thanks for your support.

Dear Parent or Guardian:
This week we are studying the character trait of citizenship.
Definitions of citizenship include: |
|
having and exercising the duties, rights, and privileges
of a citizen; and the condition of being a citizen. |
Being a citizen of the United States means we are entitled to certain
rights, or freedoms that are not necessarily guaranteed in other countries.
Those freedoms carry with them the responsibility of maintaining them
for future generations. We do this by staying informed on issues of the
day, practicing our rights, and remaining active. Involvement sometimes
seems hard given the "busyness" of our daily lives. But democracy
is sustained when each of us remains willing to share in the responsibility
for upholding the common good.
If you would like to help reinforce what we are studying this week in
character education, here are some ideas for you and your teenager to
work on together:
| |
Whenever an election is coming up, read about the
issues with your son or daughter, especially if there is one issue
that he or she would be interested in, such as education or the
welfare of children. Stress the importance of being an informed
citizen in order to vote wisely. |
| |
Talk about what it means to be "free citizens
of this country." There are plenty of stories in the news about
people in other countries today who don't experience our privileges.
The people who founded our country didn't have all these rights,
either. |
| |
In order to practice our spiritual beliefs freely,
tolerance has to be a guiding factor in our lives. Tolerance comes
from our understanding even while not agreeing. Encourage your young
person to talk about your religion and that of others and how it
is important to treat others with respect. They may have classmates
who practice different religions. Try to learn a little about these
religions together, to gain a better understanding. |
"Let us restore as social intercourse that harmony and that
affection among our citizens without which liberty and even life are but
dreary things."
—Thomas Jefferson
Sincerely,
Madison Central Faculty
